RETAIL E-COMMERCE SALES
3rd QUARTER 2007
The Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced that the estimate
of U.S. retail e-commerce sales for the third quarter of 2007, adjusted
for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not
for price changes, was $34.7 billion, an increase of 3.6 percent (±0.8%)
from the second quarter of 2007. Total retail sales for the third quarter
of 2007 were estimated at $1,020.4 billion, an increase of 0.8 percent
(±0.2%) from the second quarter of 2007. The third quarter 2007
e commerce estimate increased 19.3 percent (±2.6%) from the third
quarter of 2006 while total retail sales increased 3.8 percent (±0.5%)
in the same period. E-commerce sales in the third quarter of 2007 accounted
for 3.4 percent of total sales.
On a not adjusted basis, the
estimate of U.S. retail e-commerce sales for the third quarter of 2007
totaled $32.2 billion, an increase of 1.2 percent (±0.8%) from
the second quarter of 2007. The third quarter 2007 e-commerce estimate
increased 18.9 percent (±2.6%) from the third quarter of 2006 while
total retail sales increased 3.2 percent (±0.5%) in the same period.
E-commerce sales in the third quarter of 2007 accounted for 3.2 percent
of total sales.
